BATTLE GROUND -- A bus driver performing a maintenance check died when the bus rolled over him Wednesday evening.
Almaz Kucukovic, 51, of Vancouver, had stopped in a private parking lot about 8:15 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.
He was working on a small bus and thought he had put the transmission in the park position, police said. While he was outside the bus, it began rolling backwards.
Kucukovic tried to get back on the bus, but he slipped and fell into its path. He died immediately of leg, internal and head trauma, police said.
He was a contract employee of the Battle Ground School District, police said.
