PORTLAND – A burglar intent on stealing tequila smashed through glass and kicked out a wooden door panel at a Portland restaurant early Thursday morning.

The burglary occurred just before 5 a.m., at the Casa del Matador Restaurant & Tequila Bar, located at 1438 Northwest 23rd Avenue.

Sixteen bottles of tequila were stolen from a storage room.

“The suspect smashed the front glass door then kicked out a wood panel on the storage room door to gain access to the tequila bottles,” explained Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.

He added that the burglar rummaged through desk drawers before taking the tequila and squeezing back through the hole he smashed through the storage room door.

The total loss was over $3,000.

Surveillance cameras captured the burglary on video. Police were hoping someone may recognize the thief and tip off investigators.

“The suspect appears to be an African American male in his mid-30s with a stocky build,” Simpson added.
