KELSO, Wash. -- A boy found what turned out to be a military grenade inside of a tree in a Kelso golf course Monday.

The Longview Daily News reported that Kelso Police officer Mike Cowan was flagged down by resident 52-year-old Jack Wohl and his 11-year-old son near Three Rivers Golf Course Monday.

The newspaper reported the boy found the 4-inch long device wrapped in plastic inside a tree.

Wohl told police he was a mechanic and he had taken the flintlock object apart.

A Fort Lewis explosives team told investigators it was some sort of stun grenade, likely from Eastern Europe.

The explosives team took the grenade to Ft. Lewis for disposal, the paper said.
