PORTLAND – Authorities identified a body found Thursday in the Willamette River as the man who went missing Saturday while swimming near Portland's south waterfront.
Lawrence Hauser, 50, of West Linn went missing around 8 p.m. Saturday while trying to swim across the Willamette River near Ross Island, said Lt. Rich Chatman with Portland Fire & Rescue.
A boater heard cries for help and came over to find the woman in the water. He helped her into his boat but Hauser was not found.
After a 90 minute search, crews determined the man was submerged. The search was turned over to a Multnomah County dive team who searched Sunday but found no body.
On Thursday, a fisherman found Hauser's body around 7:30 a.m. in the Willamette River near Zidel Marine.
