KELSO, Wash. -- A man was found dead at a campsite on the east bank of the Cowlitz River and authorities have called his death suspicious.
Deputies were called just after 11 a.m. for a welfare check in the Cowlitz Gardens area of North Kelso, according to Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig of the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office.
At the scene they found the man's body inside a tent on an unoccupied campsite.
"There are some things about the scene that make this appear quite suspicious," Cowlitz County Sheriff Mark Nelson said. "We're being very deliberate in our processing of the scene in order to obtain the best possible evidence."
The cause of death and identity of the victim had not been established.
Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff's office at (360) 577-3092.
