EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- An ex-bank manager from Oregon who faked his death six years ago has survived a prison stabbing and is expected to be released in May.

A federal grand jury has indicted the man jail officials believe stabbed Randy Mainwaring on July 5 at the Sheridan Federal Correctional Institution.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports Thomas Cornelius was indicted Thursday on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do bodily harm and possession of a prohibited weapon.

It's the latest bizarre twist in the conviction and sentencing of Mainwaring.

He has admitted to stealing the identity of a previous bank customer to use after faking his own death, stealing critical information from 3,000 bank customers and obstructing justice by having a former inmate threaten a witness.
