PORTLAND -- A suspect is still loose after robbing a Northeast Portland bank and leaving the money and his weapon in a nearby yard.
Police were called to the report of an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon in the Columbia Bank at 10735 Northeast Halsey Street.
Witnesses said the man demanded money at gunpoint. He fled on foot with an unknown amount of cash, said Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson. Officers did not find the suspect, but a neighbor saw him running from the scene.
"I heard this clanging over the fence, so I looked over and saw this guy running," said Jeffrey Brock, who lives nearby and saw the suspect jump a neighbor's fence. "We made eye contact and that's when I saw the gun, he didn't point it at me but I saw the gun in his hand and I went back to get my phone."
Brock called 911 and when he looked again at his neighbor's yard he saw money lying everywhere. He said the suspect also left his glasses and his weapon behind. But responding officers told him it was actually a BB gun.
The suspect was described as a white man in his 50s, 5-foot-9, 200 pounds, with dark hair, wearing a dark baseball cap, a black T-shirt and tan shorts. Anyone with information on the suspect or robbery was asked to call police at (503) 823-0403 the Portland FBI office at (503) 224-4181.
