SCIO, Ore. – The suspect in a Christmas night standoff in Scio who reportedly pointed a rifle at his mom and a sheriff’s deputy before the mobile home he was in went up in flames faces additional arson charges, state police said Friday.
Raymon Eugene Beasley, 54, was arrested Wednesday night after a standoff that started when he pointed a gun at his mom and ended with the SWAT team pulling him from the burning home, deputies said.
Beasley was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene before being carted off to jail on burglary and menacing charges. Arson, reckless burning and criminal mischief charges were added Friday.
On Friday, arson and explosive detectives concluded the fire was not accidental and was allegedly started by Beasley, Oregon State Police said.
The fire caused more than $50,000 in damage to the home and a parked vehicle.
