CANBY – An ambulance and a car crashed in Canby Thursday night, causing the ambulance to careen into a power pole and down live power lines, firefighters said.

Just after 7 p.m., a sub-compact Honda and a Metro West ambulance crashed at the intersection of South Knights Bridge Road and South Barlow Road, said Troy Buzalsky with the Canby Fire district.

The two medics from the ambulance were providing care to an injured woman who was driving the Honda when crews arrived.

The ambulance had just dropped off a patient at the hospital and the medics were both in the front cab when the accident happened, Buzalsky said.

The driver of the Honda was taken to OHSU with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. One of the medics in the ambulance was also taken to the hospital with a possible injury.

Authorities were investigating the cause of the accident and PGE crews were managing the electrical hazard.
