WILSONVILLE, Ore. -- Authorities safely recovered an 8-month-old boy Friday afternoon who was taken by his non-custodial father from a Longview residence, police said.
Ismail Hashem, 23, was taken into custody after he was stopped around 1 p.m on Interstate 5 going southbound in a black Nissan Altima near Wilsonville, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with the Oregon State Police Department.
Hashem and another person were detained without incident and the child was found safe in the vehicle, Hastings said.
Authorities had issued an Amber Alert after Hashem, who has a restraining order barring him from contact with the child, took the boy from a 14-year-old babysitter in Longview Friday morning, said Sgt. John Reeves with the Longview Police Department.
Hashem had fled on foot and police found him in the suspect vehicle the Amber Alert described: a 2012 black Nissan Altima with Oregon plates, Reeves said.
Arrangements were being made to get the boy back to Longview with his grandparents.
