MULINO, Ore. -- Clackamas County sheriff's deputies responding to reports Monday about an alligator on the loose found the animal in a shed.

Police got a tip around 4 p.m. about a gator off of South Marshall Road.

When they got there they found "Wally." He was in good condition and appeared to be about 12 years old.

Deputies determined that Wally's owners were moving and perhaps had left him behind for the time being. Wally was handed over to a herpetology service.

Because the alligator appeared in good condition, its owners will not be cited for animal abuse. But the sheriff's office warned that owning alligators is prohibited in Oregon without a special permit. There was no permit for Wally.
