ALBANY – A man climbed through a second-story balcony and raped a woman at an Albany apartment complex and now police are seeking a person of interest in the case.

The attack happened on May 7. Police said the man was was armed with a handgun and sexually assaulted a woman at an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Southeast 18th Avenue in Albany.

The crime happened not far from an aprtment where a 8-year-old boy called police to report that his mother had been shot to death inside their home.

Police have not established a suspect profile in that case or said whether they believe the cases are connected.

In the rape case, police want to question a man as a "person of interest" in the case.  Surveillance video (shown in photo at right) shows the unidentified man and anyone with information about his identity was asked to call the Albany Police Detective Unit at 541-917-7686.
