SALEM -- Police responded Thursday evening to a report of suspicious activity and end up shooting a man several times.
Officers were dispatched about 7:40 p.m. to 4th and Hickory NE on reports of a man carrying a rifle to a vehicle. While enroute, an argument reportedly broke out, said Lt. Jim Anglemier.
Arriving officers saw a crowd in the street, and a man who set down a rifle and ran into a home.
As police searched the home, several shots were fired. A suspect was hit several times.
Ricky Wayne Lewis Jr., 41, had an outstanding warrant for possession of meth. He was taken to the hospital and expected to survive, Anglemier said.
The officers involved, Sgt. Jason Van Meter, and Officers Ben Ruddell and Brian Bidiman, have been placed on paid administrative leave. They were not injured.
