GRESHAM, Ore. – An 8-year-old boy was shot in the stomach in Gresham Saturday, police said.
At 2:19 p.m., police learned the boy was shot at a home in the 17900 block of Southeast Marine Street. The boy was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery, according to Ben Costigan with Gresham police.
The boy was out of surgery Saturday and in stable condition.
Detectives said Monday that the boy's father was putting his shotgun into a safe when he accidentally fired it, and the bullet hit the boy.
Police said the family was cooperating with police.
