ESTACADA, Ore. -- Three students were struck by a vehicle as they crossed the street between Estacada High School and Estacada Junior High School Wednesday morning, police said.
The girls were in a crosswalk when they were hit.
All three students suffered minor injuries. One of them was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Two were taken in private cars to get medical attention.
"It's really scary, I mean because I walk over here," said Estacada High senior Francie Gabbey, who was not involved in the crash. "I use this crosswalk to get over to my bus in the afternoon. For somebody not to see kids there...its really scary."
The driver stayed at the scene and was cited for failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. Police said sun glare might have been a factor.
Investigators were also looking into reports that the girls were texting at the time of the crash and did not see the car coming.
The students' names were not released.
