LINCOLN CITY, Ore. – A second person died as a result of the two-car crash that occurred on Highway 101 near Lincoln City on August 4.
Mildred Kauffman, 89, of Lincoln City, died following treatment from serious injuries a few days after the crash, Oregon State police said. Kauffman was a passenger in one of the involved cars.
The crash occurred on August 4 when a Cadillac DeVille driven by Patty Weissenfluh, 58, of Depoe Bay crossed the center line on a curve on Highway 101 and collided head-on with an oncoming Kia Soul just before 7 p.m., investigators said.
Weissenfluh was flown to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland with critical injuries.
The driver of the Kia was 71-year-old Donna Ball of Salem. Ball was also flown to Legacy, where she died about four hours later.
Kauffman and another passenger, William Ball, Jr., 74, of Salem, were taken to Legacy for treatment. Ball was seriously injured.
All people involved in the crashes were wearing their seatbelts.
Oregon State Police troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.
