CLACKAMAS, Ore. -- A Portland bomb disposal unit was called to the Clackamas Town Center Friday afternoon after a suspicious item was reported in a trash can near the mall movie theater.

Less than an hour later, the bomb squad determined that the item was harmless.

Around 2:30 p.m. someone observed what they believed to be a suspicious package and notified Clackamas Town Center Security, according to Sgt. Dan Kraus of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies and members of the Metropolitan Explosive Disposal Unit arrived on the scene and began to investigate.

Some areas of the mall were evacuated and then about 15 minutes later, officers said the situation was resolved.

TriMet buses were rerouted during the police activity, spokeswoman Angela Murphy said. The movie theater bus stops were closed and passengers were asked to board near the parking garage instead.  At 4:15 p.m., TriMet reported that all bus services had been restored to normal routes.
