CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. -- Chelan County Sheriff's officials confirmed Sandra June Bennatts, the mother in an Amber Alert issued Monday, is in custody and her 6-year-old son Mason has been found safe.

While details were developing, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office tweeted that a deputy had spotted Bennatts' vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 2 over Stevens Pass just before noon and a high-speed chase ensued. Shortly after, Chelan County officials confirmed the boy and his mother were in custody.

Authorities say Bennatts forced entry into her mother's Auburn home on 186th Place Southeast at knife point Sunday night. Bennatts beat her mother, tied her up and took her son, Mason Bennatts-Miller, who is autistic. She also ransacked the house and stole her mother's grey Acura RDX.

Officials believe she might have also taken a hand gun.

Bennatts-Miller was described as approximately 3 feet tall and weighing 50 lbs. He has blonde hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt with bright lettering and jeans.

The pair was believed to be headed south, possibly to Mexico.
