CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- About 23 pounds of cocaine were seized during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Central Point, Oregon Tuesday night, police said.

A northbound Chrysler Sebring with California plates was pulled over for speeding near milepost 32 just before 10:30 p.m.

During the stop, a trooper found 10 kilos, about 23 pounds, of cocain in the passenger compartment, according to a joint statement from Oregon State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, 22-year-old Vincent Michael Mendez of Spring Valley, Calif., and the passenger, 21-year-old Alyssa Panziera of Salinas, Calif., were arrested for unlawful possession and delivery of cocaine.

The estimated value of the cocaine is $500,000.
