PORTLAND -- A woman was arrested for stealing $20,000 in cash from a Portland nail salon employee, police said.
Deputies were called just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday to the report of a theft inside Number One Nail Salon at 10435 SE 82nd Ave.
An employee told police a customer stole the money from her purse, said Sgt. Dan Kraus of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
The employee followed the suspect to her car and waited for arriving deputies, who found the cash under the customer's driver seat. The customer admitted stealing the cash, Kraus said.
Theresa Costello, 37, was jailed for aggravated first-degree theft. She also had an outstanding warrant in Washington for first-degree theft.
"The victim indicated that she had this large amount of cash because she had been intending on going shopping for an engagement ring with her fiance," Kraus said.
