2-alarm fire on NE Alberta in Portland

A 2-alarm fire hit an apartment at NE 18th and Alberta.

PORTLAND -- Firefighters were dispatched at 6 a.m. to an apartment at 1807 NE Alberta Street.

A second alarm was called in about 10 minutes later. Arriving crews reported heavy smoke from first and second-floor windows.

The fire was declared under control by 6:30. There were no injuries and tenants were safely evacuated. A rescued cat received oxygen.

The flames originated in The Nest, a bar in the building.

Alberta was closed between 15th and 21st avenues for several hours.
