EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Two convicts from Lane County have died in separate federal prisons.

The Register-Guard reports 35-year-old Michael Paul Jones of Springfield died after an assault Oct. 1 at the Victorville, Calif., Federal Correctional Complex. He was sentenced in 2008 to 15 years in prison as a career criminal after an arrest for possessing methamphetamine and shotgun shells.

And, 56-year-old Roger Caldera Vigueria of Eugene died Thursday after falling ill at the Federal Correctional Institution in Sheridan. There was no indication of an assault and an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death. Vigueria was sentenced in 2006 to 12 years in prison for bank robbery.
