GRESHAM -- A Gresham officer fired at a suspect who he thought was trying to hit him with his car late Wednesday night, police said.
No one was injured and the suspect was quickly captured.
Investigators said around 10 p.m., someone called 911 and said a suspicious person with a baseball bat was walking around the Halsey Station Apartment Complex at 1700 NE 162nd Avenue. They said it looked like he was trying to break into at least one of the apartments there.
Four officers responded and encountered suspect Floyd Andrew Young in the parking lot.
Moments later, one of the officers fired his weapon because "he believed Young was going to strike him with his vehicle," according to Sgt. Claudio Grandjean with the Gresham Police Department.
Young, 39, of Portland, was taken into custody and later charged with warrants unrelated to this incident.
"The East County Major Crimes Team is continuing its investigation and will present its findings to the district attorney for possible charges against Young," Grandjean explained.
The officer was put on paid administrative leave, per police policy in any police shooting incident.
