PORTLAND -- A motorcyclist died after a high-speed crash about 2:30 a.m. on Southeast Milwaukie Avenue near McLoughlin Boulevard, police said.

The motorcyclist, 34, left Milwaukie southbound on his Kawasaki ZX6 after failing to negotiate a partial right turn.

He went over the curb and was airborne 100 feet before hitting the corner of an apartment building at 5248 S.E. Milwaukie Ave.

Arriving emergency crews found the motorcyclist dead at the apartment. The motorcycle had continued on, striking and heavily damaging a Volkswagen before coming to a rest.

Two people in the apartment were not hurt but visibly shaken.
