Shelters try to reunite pets lost during storm with owners

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Multnomah County Animal Services took dozens of animals into the shelter during the storm. Now, they’re working hard to reunite pets and their owners.
During the storm, officers went out on 71 calls, including 18 animal rescues, and 19 welfare checks, where animals were left outside without shelter or abandoned.
Officials said 32 cats and 22 dogs came into the shelter during the inclement weather.
Volunteer Coordinator, Ann Potter, said many pets disappeared during the storm because they ran away looking for shelter. Some animals were picked up by people who didn’t want to see the animal out in the cold.
Potter said, in some cases, snow banks were so high against a fence, animals simply walked out of their yards.
They’re asking anyone who lost a pet to come into the shelter.
Multnomah County Animal Services is closed New Years day. It will reopen under normal hours on Friday, January 2nd.
