Suspect arrested in double homicide in Gresham

GRESHAM, Ore. -- Gresham police arrested a suspect in two shooting deaths that they think were linked to gang activity on New Year's Eve.

Police were called to the Barberry Village Apartments at SE 188 th Avenue around 8 p.m. Wednesday night after reports that shots were fired in the area.

When officers arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the street. He died a short time later. He was identified as 18-year-old Darius Jerrel Perry of Portland.

Later, homicide detectives canvassing the area found another body behind a building just north of the Barberry apartments. He was identified as Willy Lewis Butler, also 18-years old, of Portland.

After interviewing family members of the victims and collecting clues in the area, police arrested 17-year-old Raymond Andrew Lawrence of Portland. Lawrence was charged with murder and his bail was set at $250,000.
