Rescuers struggle in snow to reach baby
05:58 AM PST on Tuesday, December 23, 2008
GRESHAM, Ore. -- Sheriff’s deputies teamed up to help save a baby as heavy snow prevented fire trucks from getting through a Wood Village road Monday.
Multnomah County deputies said dispatchers got a “frantic” call from a mom at Wood Village Green Mobile Home Park just after noon, saying her infant daughter had fallen backwards in a high chair and had stopped breathing.
Gresham Fire engines were unable to get through on Arata Road, so Multnomah deputies were able to shuttle rescuers to the home.
Police said they found the baby girl breathing but unconscious and very pale. Paramedics were able to stabilize the child and get her to a waiting ambulance.
The infant was taken to Emanuel Hospital in stable condition.
