Eight teens try to escape from Oregon lockup
10:23 AM PST on Monday, December 22, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The Oregon Youth Authority says eight teenage girls staged a fake fight and then assaulted three security officers in a bold attempt to escape from the Oak Creek Youth Correctional Facility in Albany.
Oregon Youth Authority spokeswoman Perrin Damon says the members of an overnight security watch were treated and released from Samaritan Albany General Hospital.
The incident began when the girls staged a fight to draw the attention of security. The girls, who are between 13 and 17, ambushed the men who responded, clubbing them with homemade weapons.
The escape ended at the central recreation yard, where the girls were thwarted by high fences.
