AMITY, Ore. -- A 60-year-old man was killed when the sled he was riding with his wife and son slid into the path of a truck Wednesday.

KGW report on sledding death

Police said Kenneth John Meyer was killed after the sled left the driveway and was hit by a pickup just before noon on SW Walnut Hill Road.

Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree said the driver was traveling in heavy snow and had no time to react before hitting Meyer.

No other injuries were reported.

It was the third sledding accident report in the past week since the snow began falling in the Willamette Valley. On Tuesday, a Lake Oswego teenager was taken to the hospital for a head injury.
