Complaints prompt state investigation of Premier Auto Group

12:50 PM PST on Tuesday, December 9, 2008

By AMANDA BURDEN, Kgw.com Staff

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Premier Auto Group is under investigation by the Oregon attorney general’s office after the state received 128 complaints against the company, which owns six car dealerships in the Portland metro area.

KGW report on Premier Auto Group

One of those dealerships, Joe’s Ford in Gladstone, recently closed and now vehicles block most entrances to the lot.

Monday, several employees shuffled cars from location to location around the lot, while a security guard kept most people off the property.

Customer complaints ranged from exploitation of vulnerable victims, to failure to honor warranties, to overly-aggressive sales tactics.

KGW spoke with a couple customers who stopped by the dealership Monday.

Both said Joe’s Ford owed them money.

Terry Tomlin said the dealership charged him $95 for a service they didn’t complete -- and that the company promised to reimburse him.

But when he stopped by Monday he was told to come back in a few days.

“I’m a retired person and I need my $95,” he said.

Another woman outside the dealership claimed Joe’s Ford charged her husband $3,500 for an extended warranty he never signed up for.

“It’s been a little frustrating,” the woman said.

She told KGW that employees at Joe’s Ford told her they planned to reimburse her right away.

Both customers say the employees at Joe’s Ford have been courteous and that they’re confident they will get their money back.

Premier Auto Group also owns Beaverton Lincoln, Beaverton Mercury, Beaverton Mitsubishi, Premier Hyundai of Milwaukie, and Hillsboro Hyundai.

Hillsboro Hyundai and Premier Hyundai are also under investigation.
