U. of Mich. giving Nike gear to veterans, soldiers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan is giving loads of Nike-branded leftovers to veterans, soldiers and Iraqis.

The school last year signed an 8-year contract with Adidas to outfit its sports teams, ending a relationship with Nike, the company based in Beaverton, Ore., whose swoosh logo was on Wolverine jerseys and shoes for years.
The Ann Arbor News reports that in recent days Nike-branded Michigan apparel in three semitrailer trucks and several storage containers was sorted at a warehouse.
The gear includes football jerseys, T-shirts, gloves, pants, coats and athletic shoes. Some is destined for veterans facilities in Michigan. Some soccer shoes are being shipped to Iraq for soldiers and Iraqis who play together.
