Woman killed in accident during storm cleanup
08:11 AM PST on Friday, December 7, 2007
A woman was killed in a freak accident while cleaning up debris from the storm outside her Cloverdale home.
Laura Steyaert and her husband, Raymond, were clearing debris from their yard when she was accidentally run over.
It happened when Raymond was driving a pickup and thought his wife had gone into the house. He put the truck into reverse and ran over her, according to Undersheriff Terry Huntsman of Tillamook County.
Steyaert could not be saved.
At least three deaths have been linked to the storms in Oregon, including a Tillamook woman who suffered a deadly heart attack, Steyaert, and another woman who was swept away in her pickup in the Nehalem River, authorities said. The pickup truck was found downriver, but the woman’s body had still not been recovered as of Friday morning.
