Son killed mother in Vancouver murder-suicide
07:34 PM PST on Tuesday, December 2, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. -- An autopsy of two relatives found dead in an east Clark County home Monday revealed the deaths were a murder-suicide.
A county medical examiner determined Tuesday that Donald Wastler killed his mother, 86-year-old Evelyn Wastler, before turning the gun on himself.
The 58-year-old Vancouver man shot his mother twice with a hand gun, according to the autopsy. He himself died from one self-inflicted gun shot to the head.
Sheriffs said the murder-suicide weapon was recovered at the scene, in a residence on NE 212th Avenue.
An incomplete 911 call early Monday morning led to sheriffs’ discovery of the bodies.
Emergency dispatchers said the call came from the Wastler residence but no one spoke on the phone.
Deputies then went out to the house on a welfare check and discovered the bodies.
Evelyn Wastler was found dead in her bedroom. Authorities found Donald Wastler dead on the living room floor.
