A Northeast Portland man was sentenced to six and a half years in prison Monday for smashing his car into three cyclists last July during the annual Seattle to Portland bike ride.
Oregon State Police
40-year-old Daniel Whittlinger was arrested by St. Helens Police for allegedly hitting the three bicyclists in his Jeep.
Daniel Whittlinger was convicted of second and third degree assault, failure to perform duties of a driver, and driving under the influence.
The hit-and-run happened in July of 2007. Police say Whittlinger rammed his jeep into three cyclists who were biking in the STP ride, then sped away.
All three cyclists were injured.

Mike Beall suffered severe hand and wrist injuries. Beall says Whittlinger showed no remorse in court last week, and he wishes Whittlinger received a longer prison sentence.
“I would have liked to see more because I want someone to pay the price for my injuries,” said Beall.
Whittlinger was previously convicted in a 1989 murder and served 13 years in prison before being paroled.
