Oregon State Police released this photo of the bicycle after the crash.
Investigators said that William Bailey, of Cave Junction, was riding his bicycle northbound in the southbound lane along Highway 199 near the intersection with Rockydale Road when the accident happened just after 7 p.m. Conditions were described as foggy and dark.
Joseph Erickson, 42, of Portland apparently did not see the cyclist and struck him with his car.
Bailey died at the scene. Erickson was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, police said.
The investigation continues and no citations have been issued.
