TIGARD, Ore. -- The Tigard school board accepted the resignation of Tigard High School Principal Jon Schuhl Thursday after Schuhl was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

In April, Schuhl failed to take a breathalyzer test as part of a traffic violation. Under Oregon law, that resulted in an automatic suspension of Schuhl's license.

District officials said they did not learn Schuhl had his license suspended until late October, when they say he was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

District spokesperson Susan Stark Haydon said the board did not receive all the details about the April incident until November 14.

Schuhl was named Tigard High principal in March but did not officially take over the position until July 1.

Associate Principal Barbara Proctor was scheduled to fill in on a temporary basis while the district searched for a permanent replacement.
