Campus mourns George Fox student killed in wrong-way crash
05:55 PM PST on Monday, November 19, 2007
Students at George Fox University filed into the school's chapel early Monday morning after a weekend crash that killed one student and injured three others.
Cara Moran, 22, died after a driver going the wrong way on highway 99 W slammed into the car she shared with three friends.
The driver of the scorched Ford Focus died at the scene.
Moran and her friends were returning from Portland just before 1 a.m. when the accident happened.
The crash happened around 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of Edy Rd and Highway 99 in Sherwood.
Walter Peck with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said police arrived on scene to find flames shooting 15 to 20 feet from the wrong way vehicle.
Faven Yidaw of Portland and Kim Cullen and Arianne Reagor from Kelso were hospitalized.
Christian Kofi lived next to Moran. He said one of the girls invited him to go along with them Saturday night, but he declined. It's a decision he hasn't fully digested.
"Faven came to my apartment and was like you want to come along?," said Kofi.
Moran was from Chandler, Arizona. She was scheduled to graduate next month.
Inside the chapel lobby, students poured their sorrow into words. They signed poster board sized cards for the survivors.
The small Christian university quilted itself in it's faith.
"No matter what happens we are surrounded by God's love. Even though we can not understand the reason this happened, God does and there is a reason," said senior Melody Frederic.
Several Sherwood police officers along with witnesses were able to pull the three of the students out of the car before the flames spread to their vehicle.

Fire crews dowsed the flames on the wrong-way car. The driver of that car was also pronounced dead at the scene. That driver's identity was not released.
The University e-mailed out a statement to students Sunday Morning. An excerpt follows:
"I know all our hearts ache for the Moran family and Cara’s many friends among us. This is a terrible tragedy and I trust we will continue to uphold one another in prayer and that God’s presence, peace, and strength will be very real among us. This is clearly one of those things that are difficult to understand this side of eternity. Again, please be in prayer for Cara’s family and friends during this time of deep sadness and loss as well as a quick and complete recovery for Arianne, Kim, and Faven. Of course, I’d also encourage you to pray for the family of the driver of the other vehicle as well."

The crash was still under investigation.
