JACKSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) -- A neighbor says it sounded like the Fourth of July when James Frings' house erupted yesterday in the Southern Oregon town Jacksonville.
Neighbors say the 77-year-old Frings kept barrels of gunpowder, reloaded ammunition and sold bullets.
One neighbor rescued him from the smoke and fire as blasts rocked the house.
Another neighbor said it sounded as if 5,000 to 10,000 rounds went off.
Firefighters say they hadn't determined what touched off the explosions.
The house was gutted.
Frings survived with face and hand burns. He was hospitalized and reported in fair condition.
