Police investigate two fatal shootings in North Portland

06:07 PM PST on Saturday, November 17, 2007

By ADRIANE HORNER, kgw.com Staff

Portland Police were busy responding to two separate fatal shootings just nine hours and several blocks apart between Friday night and Saturday morning.

The first shooting occurred just after 10 p.m. on Friday night at a home in the 5800 block of North Montana Ave.

When police arrived they found 32-year-old Charles Daniel Callaway dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Police said they think Callaway may have been shot after interrupting a burglary at the home.

The victim’s white colored 2000 Subaru Legacy station wagon with Oregon license plate ZMG072 was missing from the home. Police said the suspect might have stolen the vehicle.

The body of 47-year-old Patricia Andrews was found after police responded to a shots fired call at North Killingsworth Street and North Minnesota Avenue.

Investigators were still on the scene of the homicide on North Montana Avenue when they received a report of shots fired at nearby North Killingsworth and North Minnesota Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

When officers arrived at the second scene they found the body of a deceased black female in the grass on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The female victim was identified as 47-year-old Patricia Louise Andrews.

Autopsies on both suspects were scheduled for Sunday.

Police said Saturday that while the two homicides were only a few blocks apart there was no information to suggest they were related.
