MILWAUKIE, Ore. – Police identified an elderly woman hit and killed in the parking lot of a Milwaukie apartment Saturday afternoon.

KGW report on woman killed

Police said 97-year-old Anna Hemming was accidentally hit by her neighbor, 79-year-old Stanley Keltz, as he backed out of a parking space, to take his wife to the hospital.

It happened on the 12200 block of Southeast 31st Place around 3:30 p.m, police said.

Hemming was rushed to Oregon Health and Science University where she was pronounced dead.

Relatives told KGW they’re at peace with the accident that killed Hemming, who was a beloved mom, grandma, great grandma and even a great, great, grandmother.

“Knowing her, she'd say, ‘don't be sad for me, just be happy for the life I had with you,’” said Tiffany Fogoros, Hemming's great, granddaughter. “And we need to remember what she taught us, that family was important and to love everybody.”

Keltz was not injured or cited and his wife suffered a panic attack, which she was treated and was listed in good condition at last report.
