PORTLAND -- Police said they arrested a driver who smashed into several cars Friday morning in Northeast Portland and almost hit three pedestrians as well.
Investigators said it all started just before 9 a.m. when an SUV racing down NE 2nd Avenue slammed head-on into a car loaded with a grandpa and three young kids. The children, ages six, 11 and 15, suffered minor cuts and their grandfather hurt his neck. They were all taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The SUV driver fled the scene by a Good Samaritan did manage to jot down his license plate number.
A short time later, police said the red SUV smashed into a Cadillac and another vehicle near the intersection of Broadway and MLK.
Clues led police to a 30-year-old man, who officers arrested Friday for hit and run, reckless driving and DUII.
Then police said the driver almost hit three pedestrians crossing the street at Broadway and Victoria.
The SUV was last spotted speeding westbound over the Broadway Bridge.
