PORTLAND -- Police have identified a homicide victim found in a Southeast Portland dumpster Friday.

KGW Report on homicide

The bloody body of 37-year-old Amantha Mendive was discovered Friday morning behind a dumpster outside Freedom Foursquare Church at SE 160th Avenue near the SE Stark St. intersection.

Police report that employees at a nearby importing business first discovered the body when taking out the trash at work early Friday.

James St. John, who lives nearby, reports hearing "gunshots and screams" outside sometime last night, between 12:30 and 1 a.m.

Portland Police Bureau spokesperon Brian Schmautz said there was evidence of a "violent homicide."

Medive's body was found laying next to a pair of shoes and a water bottle in an area frequented by families, near the church, a strip mall and bus stops.

Homicide detectives are photographing and mapping the crime scene.
