Police have identified a suspect in the deadly shooting of a 31-year-old man in a car on Southeast Division Street early Wednesday morning.
Detectives believe Christopher Blackwell, 21, pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle and fired multiple rounds. They do not believe this was an act of random violence.
Blackwell was described as weighing about 210 pounds and 5'10" tall. He has a tattoo of the word "cream" on his left forearm and has a lengthy criminal past.
Portland police were first called to the scene around 2 a.m. when they got reports of shots fired. Once in the area, they found a car on Division at 101st Avenue with its hazard lights on and several bullet holes.
They found John William Stewart's body inside the car, but he wasn't alone; two other people were in the car with him, police said. The witnesses remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation.
An autopsy determined Stewart died of a gunshot wound to his torso.
