Oregon minister sentenced for stealing couple's wedding gifts
07:50 AM PST on Thursday, November 6, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A minister who married a couple in 2007 then stole $1,500 of their wedding gifts has been fined and sentenced to two years bench probation.
Shey-Rima Silveria married Kitty and Shawn Sonnenschein in their Portland back yard with 75 to 100 guests present. She then took home a stack of Home Depot gift cards the couple had requested for remodeling their kitchen.
The couple met Silveria, then of Newberg, through Craigslist.
Portland police spotted her on a surveillance tape using some of the cards in Sherwood.
She mailed in her plea from her new home in Washington and was ordered to pay $1,500 in restitution and a $300 fine.
