Salem man guilty of murder, chopping up victim's body

A 22-year-old murder suspect pleaded guilty Monday to killing a man and chopping up the body before burying the remains on a Yamhill County farm.

Medical examiners said used DNA tests to identify the remains 23-year-old Christopher Lampkin, were found when police swarmed the remote property in September.

Leonardo Gonzales, 22, pleaded guilty to murder, abuse of a corpse, assault and weapons charges Monday. He was arrested for the killing in August 2006.

Court documents obtained by KGW indicate that the two men got in “an argument and fight.” Then, according to witnesses, Gonzales ordered the victim to his knees and “shot Christopher Lampkin in the head.”

The documents show police think Gonzales "disposed of the body by chopping" it up, and dumping the body parts.

Sentencing was set for January.
