PORTLAND -- A man attempting to evade arrest in Salem this weekend crashed into a yard, struck a tree, ran away and wrestled a police dog before his capture.

Marion County sheriffs report a deputy was attempting a routine traffic stop early Sunday morning when the suspect attempted to get away.

The suspect, Daniel Van Eugene Hall, 19, reportedly left the vehicle and tried to run away on foot.

The sheriff’s deputy released his K-9 partner, Yo, who caught Hall.

Hall continued to fight the dog, according to a police report, and at one point “surrendered,” only to get up and take off running, again.

Yo stopped Hall a second time and he was taken into custody.

Sheriffs later determined Hall was driving a stolen car that had not yet been reported by the victim.

He later admitted to being high on methamphetamine.

Hall faces charges including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, eluding police, reckless driving, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools, interfering with a police animal and DUI.
