MANZANITA, Ore. -- A large wave rolled over a 20-foot fishing boat, throwing two men into the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon coast. One fisherman died, authorities said.
The vessel capsized Thursday afternoon on the bar in Nehalem Bay near Manzanita, the Coast Guard said.
The Tillamook County sheriff's department said that when emergency workers arrived, boat owner Ronald Agresti, 48, of nearby Rockaway Beach was on the south jetty pulling the other boater, Fredrick Chamberlain, 66, of St. Helens out of the water.
But Chamberlain was not breathing, authorities said. A Coast Guard helicopter took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The sheriff's department said neither man was wearing a life jacket. Agresti was uninjured.
