Salem man arrested in theft of Defense Department laptop

SALEM, Ore. -- A Salem man was charged with breaking into a car and stealing a Department of Defense laptop computer.
Surveillance from a Red Lion Inn helped police find 31-year-old Patrick Allen Gerber after the video was shown on local news. The theft happened on October 20.
None of the information on the computer contained classified material and investigators said they were still looking for the laptop.
Gerber was charged with theft.
