TOLEDO, Wash. -- A 62-year-old man shot and killed a burglar who he said was breaking into his Toledo home late Tuesday night.
The homeowner, who lives in the 100-block of Mulford Road, told police he was awakened by a strange noise just before 11 p.m. and realized someone was walking up the stairs inside his home.
Then, he ordered the stranger to “freeze” but said the man kept moving toward him, so he again yelled “freeze!”
“The burglar continued, therefore the homeowner shot the burglar, stopping him from advancing any further,” said Chief Deputy Gene Seiber with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
The burglary suspect, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene, Seiber said.
Toledo is located just off I-5, north of Longview, Wash.
