An alert bank teller helped officers capture two suspects in an identity theft ring that targeted Pleasant Valley teachers, police said.

Several teachers at Pleasant Valley Elementary School, at 17625 SE Foster Road in Portland, reported that their purses were stolen during three separate days earlier this month, according to Lt. Michael Shults with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

During the investigation, a bank teller alerted detectives that suspicious identification was being used at an area bank. Shults said the teller also gave police information about a suspect’s vehicle that led them to the Travelodge Motel in Wood Village.

Detectives arrested suspects Marvin Rentle and Rory Camacho at that motel after a short chase.

“Rory Camacho jumped out of the second floor window to avoid being caught," Shults said. "As one of the detectives gave chase he injured his ankle, but was still able to apprehend him with the help of another deputy.”

A search revealed that the two men had numerous forged checks in their possession and other stolen items, Shults said. Police believe the duo may have stolen the identities of as many as 30 people.

Camacho and Rentle were transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and the investigation continues. Anyone with additional information that may help in the case is asked to call the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
